Primary treatment

Primary treatment, also called pre-treatment, focuses on the removal of large particles as well as settable and suspended solids from the waste water. Larger particles are removed by a filtration unit. Settable particles (sand) and suspended (e.g. fat) are removed from the water by a flotation unit. In case of flotation, pollution can be removed with physical or physical-chemical treatment. The latter is with the addition of a coagulant and/or flocculants.
